Keynote Speaker
Alvert is a Latino male from Union City, New Jersey. Inspired by other educators in an urban environment, Alvert knew he wanted to serve his community and work with students one day. Alvert is a well-rounded professional in Student Affairs with extensive experience in Residence Life, Fraternity & Sorority Life, Academic Advising, and Opportunity Programs for First Generation College students. He is a dynamic speaker that focuses on building a relationship with his audience and tying theory with practicality. During his undergraduate career, Alvert held a variety of student leadership roles including being a two-term student body president.
Alvert currently serves as the inaugural Director of First-Generation Student Initiatives at Moravian University where he provides leadership and advocacy toward outcomes that support outstanding academic, social, and collegiate experiences for over 450 first-generation students.
Outside of his full-time job, Alvert continues his work as a national speaker and consultant for colleges/universities. He has spoken at many institutions and national conferences throughout the country on student development and leadership. He is the host of his own podcast "Los Fundamentos" (The Fundamentals) in which he breaks down college-related topics on leadership and self-help into 20 to 30-minute segments.
Alvert is also a published author. His first book called "15 Consejos: A Guide for Latinx Students to Succeed in College" ties the experience and practice that Alvert has learned throughout his years in higher education and has sold over 1,000 copies since March 2021. He shares tangible strategies on how to navigate the higher education landscape as a college student, through the lens of a Latino male. This 15-step journey fuses Latinx culture with leadership to break down the college experience and help promote student success for first-generation and/or low-income students.
